LadyLady Starlight was a performer Gaga was acquainted with during this time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007 after a performance on Lollapalooza Festival. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. In 2008, Gaga released her first album 'The Fame' to minimal radio coverage. Gaga was on tour throughout Europe as well as in gay clubs across the US to launch the album. However, it wasn't until her debut single "Just Dance" gained mainstream attention in 2009 that Gaga became a major player on the scene. Gaga suffered from a labral tear in her right leg that she was secretly nursing for a few weeks in order to ensure she could continue the tour. After her performance in Toronto Gaga, she was unable to walk and was in great discomfort. She was taken to the hospital where her tour was cancelled.
