Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on that part of the island of Montreal called the West Island. People unfamiliar with the term generally believe that it's an separate island somewhere west from Montreal however, in reality this part of West Island is home to everything from the city of Lachine west. It is often cited as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel, but while that is true the time she spent there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice located outside of Oshawa, Ontario. Early ambitions were to be an experienced dancer. Then, a growing surge meant she had outgrown the dancers she had with. In an article published by the Toronto Star, she confessed, "In heels I am six feet and one inch." Once I outgrew the male dancers I worked with, I quit. A lot of former dancers go into acting. In Brugel's situation her encouragement came from the drama teacher at her high school. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the annual school production. She auditioned and was cast as the leading role for the role of Rita in Anne of Green Gables. It was her turn to be awarded the Fine Arts Talent scholarship at York University, where she studied Theatre and received a Bachelor's degree of Fine Arts in 2000.
